Florida Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit by a Truck

When you decide to walk somewhere, you put a certain amount of trust in the motorists on the road. You trust that they will follow traffic laws, stopping when they are required to, following the speed limit, and looking both ways before crossing an intersection. Sometimes, however, drivers are not always as diligent as they should be. When this happens, a pedestrian accident may occur.

In an accident that occurred yesterday, a Florida pedestrian was struck by an oncoming pickup truck while trying to cross a road. As a result of the injuries sustained in the crash, the 61-year-old man died.

The crash occurred just after 8:00 p.m. yesterday. The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the pedestrian was attempting to cross a highway when the pickup truck, driven by a 69-year-old man, hit him.

Police closed the road while they investigated the incident. The pickup truck driver has not been charged with the pedestrian’s death.

This fatal accident shows the serious consequences of a crash involving a pedestrian. Pedestrians have very little protecting them from the harsh blow of a car accident. Often, pedestrians sustain serious injuries in accidents like this one. And, as we saw in this case, some are even killed.

In order to help prevent these tragic accidents, it is very important that Florida drivers keep a close watch out for any pedestrian who may be crossing a road, walking near a road or waiting to cross a road. Avoiding distractions like talking on a cell phone or texting while driving can be helpful in making sure drivers are focused on the road.
